About Links

What are Health Links?

Health Links are long-term partnerships between UK health institutions and their counterparts in developing countries. The aim of Links is to improve health services in developing countries through the reciprocal exchange of skills, knowledge and experience between partners in the UK and those overseas. Links can operate between a diverse range of formal health institutions (including colleges/universities, teaching hospitals or training centres, hospitals, NHS Foundation Trusts, non-governmental organisation run clinics, non-profit health practices and health ministries) and cover numerous disciplines.

Academic Educational Links

The purposes of academic educational Links are (i) to assist universities overseas (principally those in Sub-Saharan Africa) by fostering cooperation with partner organisations in the UK, and (ii) to increase awareness in British medical and nursing schools of education and training in a wider international context. Such partnerships are most commonly forged between medical or nursing schools, but colleges committed to the delivery of courses in other professions allied to the practice of medicine (laboratory technology, dietetics, physiotherapy and many others) may also be involved.
