The Hashim Welfare Hospital was established in Pindi Hashim in rural Pakistan with the support of staff from Ashford and St. Peter’s Hospitals NHS Trust.  The first patient was examined in June 2003 and eye surgery commenced in October 2003.  A clinical laboratory was opened in March 2005 and a dental department has recently established.  Following the earthquake in north west Pakistan and Kashmir on 8th October 2005 funds for the expansion of the hospital were diverted to relief work and with staff from Hashim Welfare Hospital involved in the running of Sessar Hospital and three associated basic health units (BHU) in Bagh district.   Ashford and St. Peter’s hospital staff support the work of the Hashim Welfare Hospital in their spare time in clinical; engineering and promotional areas.   During Ramadan 2006 £30;000 was raised for the Hospital Appeal.
