Godson Mlefu is a Carpentry instructor who works at The National Mental Health Hospital in Dodoma, Tanzania. He received training as part of a project that seeks to develop the therapeutic management of violence and aggression, delivered by the Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust, UK and Mirembe Hospital and Nursing School.
Godson states that the training has, ‘helped me to work with patients better and to not be afraid of them.’ The training has also introduced Godson to specific skills that allow him to manage potentially aggressive situations, ‘when I am in the working with patients in the workshop, I sometimes find them misbehaving and worry that they might start some problems. I start by telling them to stop “acha”. If someone does something dangerous then I use the breakaway technique.’
