Alex Rutherford

Advocacy and APPG Coordinator

Biography

I have a degree in Biomedical Science and an MSc in Global Health from the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, specialising in communicable disease and global politics. Having worked to strengthen disease reporting mechanisms for childhood illnesses on behalf of PHE, and then as a researcher within the NIHR Global Health Research Unit for NTDs- working to improve disease control strategies in Ethiopia and Sudan- I have a strong interest in how societal factors and upstream determinants can shape the burden of disease.

I’m passionate about tackling health injustice and ensuring that everyone has access to quality and affordable healthcare. As part of this, I’m particularly interested in global health governance and how decision-making processes can be influenced to create positive, sustainable change for the people who need it most.
